A new tool for measuring river flows: Granulometric Passive Capture of Dissolved matter & Sediment (GEACOS)

Suspended sediments have been identified as a vector for the transport of nutrients and contaminants. In order to collect representative samples of particulate and dissolved fluxes from a catchment, we have developed low-cost samplers. The size is quite similar to that of the Phillips Sampler, but the GEACOS have been designed to carry out direct grain size sorting of suspended sediments in the field and also to capture dissolved chemical elements using passive samplers such as DGT membranes. The particulate and dissolved phases are collected according to the same protocol as for the Phillips samplers.
